Happy Mother’s Day Weekend! Let’s honor the queens in our lives with some DIY gifts you can make at home to tap into the creator in you while celebrating mom.

  • Homemade Reed Diffuser (courtesy of goodhousekeeping.com)

Materials

  • Ceramic flower vase

  • Diffuser reeds

  • Sweet almond or safflower oil

  • Essential oils of your choice

Directions

  1. Pour sweet almond oil or safflower oil in 1/2 cup increments into the ceramic or glass vase.

  2. Add 30 - 50 drops of essential oils per 1/2 cup of base oil. Remember: Some essential oils can be harmful to pets, so do your research before you add them.

  3. Give the vase a good shake or stir to mix oils.

  4. Stick in 5 - 8 reed diffuser sticks. You can also cut off the pointed ends of bamboo skewers, if you have extras on hand. Flip the reeds or skewers after one hour or when half-saturated.

  5. For a stronger scent, flip reeds once every week and replace the oil mixture once a month.

  • Instagram Photo Calendar (courtesy of kristimurphy.com): Turn Instagram photos into a flip calendar mom will love!

Materials

  • printed Instagram photos (you can use Walgreens to print instagram photos)

  • printable flip calendar templates

  • scissors

  • ruler

  • black poster board

  • glue

  • pencil

  • wire

  • hole punch

  • scoring tool (or a knife and ruler)

  • tape

Directions

  1. Print your Instagram photos. I printed mine using the Instagram photo printing option through Walgreens - photo.walgreens.com. I used the Instagram photo print option which prints them to size 4” x 4.”

  2. Print + cut out the flip calendar templates. It is easiest to upload these to Walgreen’s as well. Print them just like the Instagram photos.

  3. Measure + cut your poster board to 19” x 18.”

  4. n the 18” side, score your poster board every 5” using a scoring tool or a knife and ruler. You will have 3” leftover. *If you are using a knife and ruler to score, simply hold the ruler where you want your score line to be, and run the backside of the knife alongside the ruler. When you fold, you will fold the flaps down.

  5. With the first flap folded over, punch holes 1” apart and 1” from the fold line. A small hole punch (just bigger than your wire) is best, but a regular hole punch will work fine.

  6. Line up your dates + photos onto the folded flap where you want them. Tape them on, and then flip the poster board over. Punch holes in the cards where the holes in your poster board are. Use these photos as a guide of where to punch holes in the rest of the dates and photos.

  7. Wrap your wire around a round item that is about 1 ½” in diameter making sure the ends are curved (you can use pliers here if need be).

  8. Starting at one end, insert your wire into the first hole. Twist your wire and guide it through the rest of the holes.

  9. Fold your poster board into a triangle shape. Secure it by gluing the 3” flap inside the triangle.

  • DIY Floral Monogram Door Hanger (courtesy of diaryofadebutante.com)

Materials

  • 12″ Canvas Letter

  • X-Acto Knife

  • Fake Flower Bushes

  • Hot Glue Gun and Glue Sticks

Directions

  1. Use your X-Acto knife to carefully cut around the letter. You’re essentially making your own monogram shadowbox. Once the canvas is off, it’s much easier to jab the X-Acto knife directly into the letter. After you’ve cut enough to fit a few fingers through, you can start manually (albeit gently!) peeling off the cardboard.

  2. Next, either pull or cut the flowers you’d like to use from the plastic stems. It is recommended that you rearrange them in the monogram shadowbox to see how they look before doing any gluing.

  3. Finally, glue all the flowers and greenery in place with a hot glue gun. Be liberal with the glue, especially if you’re giving these DIY monogram letters as gifts. You can also glue any fraying canvas back in place for a cleaner look.

  4. And your DIY monogram door hanger is complete! Mind you, you don’t have to hang it on a door, it looks super cute on bookshelves or used as wall decor.
